5 Team Building Activities That Will Help Your Staff Perform Better
What is Team Building?
Team building is a process of creating stronger relationships and improving the skills needed for them to work well together through planned and structured activities. Team building aims to enhance team working by getting them to work better together.
Team building activities can be formal or informal, relaxing or challenging. They are often planned using team building activities in Singapore and most commonly involve group-based games such as trust falls, tough guy/girl walks and scavenger hunts.
Teamwork activities help groups of people get to know each other better through socializing, sharing experiences and common tasks. Team members may also work more closely together at a task or project that takes some time to complete for the purpose of developing a sense of shared identity and commitment. This develops friendships, trust between team members, promotes positive attitudes towards one another which leads to greater efficiency in completing tasks.
Why should you organize Team Building?
According to Google Singapore’s CEO Rajan Anandan, team building is important because, “It helps all of us understand each other better as we get to know each other in new ways.” He says that he has never seen a company with high performing teams without having engaged employees. So it must be true right? Here’s some numbers:
About 67% of surveyed employees feel actively involved in their jobs when they have regular meetings with their managers/supervisors. About 29 – 41 % of the surveyed employees involved in team building activities in Singapore we’re found more active than before.
About 20% of the surveyed employees, who were involved in team building activities in Singapore, found that their companies had exceeded their expectations and they were more likely to recommend joining the company to a friend or relative.
5 Team Building Activities for you and your employees
1. Scavenger hunt
This is an interactive activity where teams are set with different tasks to solve in order to get clues and complete the scavenger hunt. Some examples of how you can organize this activity for your employees are:
Treasure hunt:
In this kind of scavenger hunt, each employee will be given a list of items that have to be collected from different places. Each item found will point to the next item on the list with some clues. The team who collects these items first wins.
Blind date:
One team member has to find a clue that points where his blind date is. Once he finds a clue, he gives it to the person who’s taking care of the “diary” (which is actually the master plan). Then the “diary”-keeper finds out when those two people will meet. If the date ends up successful, they will get a clue about the next person that has to be found.
2. Archery Tag or Paintball gun fight
There are many team building activities in Singapore which are a great way to inspire your employees and help them work as best they can. Many people are not aware of these types of activities. Archery tag and Paintball is a game that has been around for decades, which involves teams or individual players competing against each other to eliminate opponents by hitting them with paint-filled pellets fired from guns or with arrows (totally safe). The winner can be determined through elimination of the opposing team’s members or completion of an objective first.
3. Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is a sport in which competitors climb up, down or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. Competitors are scored on the difficulty of ascents and the speed with which they complete them. Rock climbing competitions have three main disciplines which are lead, bouldering and speed. This works very well for team building as it’s not concluded on the efforts of a single person.
4. Office meetings with family
it’s always a good idea to hold periodic meetings where employees are encouraged to bring their family members along so they can see what it is like working at the company from another perspective. It’s totally circulates around socializing and bonding between the employees and can be useful in long run as they meet and get to know their fellows and their family outside the work.
5. Sharing memories about the company’s history
This is one the most popular team-building activities in Singapore. Tell your employees that it is a tradition in your company to share their favorite memories of the company’s history, then encourage them to share theirs in front of everyone else during an afternoon tea time or when they are gathered together for an assembly meeting. As they start telling those stories, see what they appreciated when they started. This will make them reminisce about the past, which can then serve to motivate everyone to continue working on a project or even help them get through difficult times in the workplace.
Conclusion
If you want to be a good employer, then you have to be really creative. Ask your employees about their input. What is it that will motivate them the most and what are their visions for the company? You can only find these out if you spend time with your team members and get to know them better. After all, they may be the ones that will make your company grow and flourish.
